Victorian fine (900) silver swallow necklace with paste stones and fresh water pearl. This beautiful little fellow is connected to large gold jump ring which suspended's from a trace chain with a choice to wear as a 16 inch or 18inch necklace. The stones have darkened over time but this only adds to the character of piece which still exudes a beautiful antique sparkle. The swallow is marked 900 on the reverse and the 9ct gold chain is also hallmarked , all jump rings have been securely soldered into place.

Swallows were a very romantic symbol in antique jewellery. They were said to represent faithfulness. Typically, an item with a swallow on it was presented to a loved one as they set out on a journey or given from the person leaving to the loved ones they left behind. It was a reminder of the love shared and a promise to return home safely.
